Our student choreography program began in 2022 with just three young students choreographing a piece in their living room about light breaking through the darkness. Their piece was very favourably received by both the Outreach and Final Gala audiences, and we officially added Student Choreography into our IBSI schedule. For the following five years, all the students worked together to choreograph and create one impactful piece to be included in the performance repertoire. Student Choreography quickly became a highlight of IBSI for students and audience members alike.

 

Due to the growth and expansion of IBSI, we decided to open an official Student Choreographer application. This new program is designed for students who are interested in choreographing and setting choreography professionally. We will select 2-3 Student Choreographers per year, and pair them with a faculty mentor. Student Choreographers will have the opportunity to choreograph a piece, set it on students and run rehearsals, and watch their piece be performed at our Outreach Performances and Final Gala.
